Shabbos is Coming Our Home is Your Home
Shabbos is Coming Our Home is Your Home
We live in the oldest house on the block, I drive one of the oldest cars in the Monsey. I am located in middle of the most Chassidish neighborhood yet the people visiting our home seem out of place. A neighbor commented that I should move. Another told her children not to play with the kids who were visiting for Shabbos saying “They are not like us”.
I agree…. I am the odd ball…. Let me explain….
“Our Home Is Your Home”, “Shabbos Is Coming” and “Yesh Orach Chaim” is all one organization which operates out of our home. Seems odd?
You see, we believe in “Non Judgmental Judaism”. It doesn’t matter where you come from so long as you are Jewish and have a positive attitude. Our guests come from various backgrounds from Baalei T’shuva, Yeshivish or Chassidish some are single, married and some are divorced with or without children. Our home is open to all.
Yes we are the odd ball !
Our guests come from Baltimore, Boro Park, England, France, and Israel, Kiryas Yoel, Monsey, Williamsburg and more. They may be your cousin, your neighbor, your son or daughter, your grandchild or even someone you don’t know.
A fellow arrived at midnight on the first night of Sukkos, just as we were cleaning up from the Seudah. He walked 4 hours on the dark country roads, without sidewalks, because he didn’t realize it was after Shkiah and Yom Tov had already begun. Isn’t that odd?
A single divorced mother from a Chassidish home with 4 children asked to join us for dinner on Chanukah because her children didn’t have a father to show them the joy of playing Dreidel. We had each child light their own Menorah and gave them Chanukah gifts. Is this odd?
Last year a 35 year old single woman had her first exposure to Yiddishkeit at our Seder.
Two teenagers from a Yeshivish hone who needed a little TLC, joined our family for bowling and pizza one Motzai Shabbos.
A former Lakewood student with many questions in Emunah enjoyed his first Shabbos in a long time.
This Rosh Hashanah we rented a facility and had more than 50 people. People who haven’t gone to Shul in years were dancing at the end of Musaf.
A fellow who lives at home, hasn’t eaten with his parents house in 3 years, joined us for a Shabbos meal.
We serve Heimishe food just like you.
We sing Zemiros just like you.
We are a family just like you.
Sometimes we have our own Minyan just like you.
I guess we are odd because our door is open with Varemkeit for people who grew up in the same house just like you.
Please help us continue to be odd
